BISP beneficiary families to reach seven million soon

ISLAMABAD: Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Farzana Raja has said that the mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Oman in social sector should be further enhanced so that people of both countries could benefit from it. She emphasised the need to build person-to-person contact between the two nations. She said this while talking to Oman’s Ambassador to Pakistan Mohammad Bin Said Bin Mohammad Al-Lawati who called on her at the BISP Secretariat on Monday.

Farzana Raja informed the visiting ambassador of various steps taken by BISP and said that the programme had been able to successfully bring about revolutionary changes in the lives of nearly 6 million beneficiary families of BISP. The number of beneficiary families was expected to increase to 7 million once the ongoing nationwide poverty survey was fully completed, she further added.

She also told the ambassador about various initiatives of BISP including provision of demand-driven vocational training to its beneficiary families under Waseela-e-Rozgar scheme in line with job opportunities available both at the national and international level. She presented the details of Waseela-e-Haq, life insurance, health insurance, and other innovative steps of BISP including the Benazir Smart Card and Mobile Phone Banking and said that these steps were contributing significantly in poverty eradication.

Ambassador Al-Lawati appreciated the performance of BISP and termed it a very effective initiative in the social sector of the country. He assured Farzana Raja of the support of the government and people of Oman for the cause of poverty eradication in Pakistan. pr
