Balochistan govt authorised to open political dialogue in province

ISLAMABAD: At a high level meeting held in the Presidency on Tuesday, the federal government authorised the provincial government of Balochistan to begin dialogue with all political forces in the province.

The meeting at the same time identified measures for strengthening the capacity of the police, levies and law enforcing agencies to effectively fight the lawless elements to restore peace and normalcy to the province.

Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar said that this was the second meeting in the Presidency Tuesday on Balochistan devoted only to law and order, the first one being on the development projects in the province.

Heads of relevant departments gave detailed briefings on the current status of law and order, issues and problems and the steps being taken by the relevant organisations to maintain peace and security in Balochistan were discussed during the meeting. Interior

Minister Rehman Malik also gave an overview of the security situation in the province.

Babar said that the issue of missing persons was also discussed.

President Zardari directed that necessary resources should be made available to complete the developmental projects ahead of schedule to provide a congenial atmosphere for peace and security in the province.

The president said that Balochistan’s speedy development was the top priority of the government. He called upon state functionaries to step up efforts, as the government could brook no further delay. The status of ongoing projects in Balochistan was also discussed. app
