Reassigning of NICL case to Zafar Qureshi

Moonis challenges SC’s decision

ISLAMABAD: Moonis Elahi, central leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), has challenged the Supreme Court’s (SC) August 8 verdict of reassigning investigation into National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Additional Director General Zafar Qureshi. Moonis Elahi, one of the accused in NICL scam, on Thursday, filed a review petition through Babar Awan against the apex court’s decision to reappoint Zafar Qureshi in a multi-billion NICL scam. Sources told Daily Times that Babar, PPP leader, would file two more petitions in the SC in order to prevent Qureshi from investigating the NICL scam. Babar, in the review petition, has pleaded to the apex court to remove Qureshi as the team head, saying Qureshi may not investigate the case impartially because he, on February 17, 2011, had submitted a written statement to the SC, saying Moonis Elahi threatened him. The former minister mentioned in the petition that in view of this it was unlikely that Qureshi would conduct an unbiased investigation. The former law minister has contended that the court reposted Qureshi to investigate the NICL scam without hearing his point of view, which was against the spirit of justice and Article 10A of the constitution. He pleaded to the court to admit his review petition. hasnaat malik
