Politicians failed to come up to expectations: CM
* Shahbaz Sharif says military dictators ruined country
Staff Report
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that young generation is determined to ensure bright future of the country and transform it in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal in real sense besides removing disparity between Pakistan of the rich and the Pakistan of the poor, said a handout issued on Sunday.
He was addressing a prize distribution ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Sunday in the honour of students, hailing from across the country, who clinched positions in matriculation examinations.
“The youth will strive for such a Pakistan where there is supremacy of justice; everyone has equal rights and which is free from corruption and plundering of the country’s resources and exchequer,” the CM noted.
He said that politicians had not come up to the expectations of the nation while military dictators ruined and disintegrated the country. “Today we pledge that we will march forward by learning a lesson from the mistakes we made in the past and will make Pakistan a great country under the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif,” the handout added.
The chief minister said that gathering of students, who secured positions in matriculation examinations, under one roof in the city of Iqbal was a sign of national unity. He prayed to Allah (The Almighty) that the same spirit prevails in Karachi as well, and it also becomes a haven of peace and tranquility. Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Members of national and provincial assembly, intellectuals, columnists, vice chancellors, teachers and a large number of people belonging to various walks of life attended the function.
Addressing the function, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that position holder students in matriculation examinations whether males or females had given a message to the entire nation that they were all one and would restore hustle and bustle in Karachi with the same spirit, and make it again the city of lights.
He said that the students had proved by dint of hard work and securing prominent positions in the examinations that none had an exclusive right over talent.
He said that those rulers who upheld justice, rule of law and served masses became popular and respect among the masses, whereas those who deceived masses, bowed before foreign forces and plundered the resources always had to face humiliation.
He said that Hosni Mubarak, who ruled Egypt for 35 years, had become an example for the entire world. “His friends and all forces supporting him have left him alone,” he said, adding, “Unfortunately, plundering is rampant in Pakistan and it has weakened its foundation.”
He said that some people criticised the idea of setting up Daanish schools. He invited them to see the performance of these children. “The confidence demonstrated by the students of Daanish schools in the function has proved that if quality facilities are provided to the poor, they are equally intelligent, and keeping in view this concept, the project of Daanish schools was launched for the propagation of quality education in backward areas so that poor and common man could also have this feeling that he had as much right over the resources of Pakistan as elite,” he elaborated.
He said that the poor had been waiting for such a Pakistan till today where they will get their right. “We have taken a step towards this direction by setting up Daanish schools,” he said, urging politicians to learn a lesson from that determination which was expressed by the students to make Pakistan a welfare and corruption free country.
He said that the young generation guaranteed bright future of Pakistan, and cash prizes worth Rs 4 crore 91 lakh and merit certificates were being distributed among 110 boys and girls students, who achieved top positions in matriculation examination throughout the country.
