PPP ministers patronising terrorists: MQM

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday alleged that some Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) ministers were patronising terrorists in Karachi while some city areas had become ‘no-go areas’. Addressing a press conference, MQM Deputy Convenor of the Co-ordination Committee Dr Farooq Sattar said that Muhajir youth were subjected to brutal torture after being kidnapped from different parts of the metropolis. “More than 20 people have been recovered, but over a dozen youngster are still missing,” he said. “Everyone is well aware of the thuggery, killings and extortions by the criminal elements in Lyari that has become a ‘no-go area’ even for the law enforcing agencies,” he said. Sattar also announced that it would peacefully observe a day of mourning and condemnation today (Tuesday) against killing of innocent citizens in Karachi. He said that the government had not condoled with the victims’ families. “I appeal to the people to hoist black flags on top of their houses,” he said. Traders are being threatened and they are being asked to pay extortion money, he said, urging the business community and transport operators to support the MQM in its mourning call. The Amn Committee started collected extortion money from the traders, industrialists and shopkeepers of Karachi by sending extortion slips, he said, adding, death threats were given if the money was not paid. Youths belonging to the Kutchi community have been abducted and killed by the terrorists of People’s Amn Committee in Lyari, he added. The Amn Committee terrorists went on a killing spree in the old city areas at the behest of certain ministers and assembly members of the PPP in order to give a new turn underlying the sad incident, he added. Use of lethal weapons by the Amn Committee and the terrorists of Lyari gangs against each other have also become quite frequent. staff report
