Team probing Akbar Bugti’s murder tasked to contact media
By Mohammad Zafar
QUETTA: The provincial investigation team has been given the responsibility to establish contacts with media organisations, mainly news channels, in order to obtain evidence in Nawab Akbar Bugti’s murder case. The investigation team that has been tasked to conduct inquiry into Nawab Bugti’s murder has already contacted media organisations and sought their help in the collection of evidence relating to the murder of the veteran Baloch leader.
The chief investigator, who belongs to the Crime Branch Balochistan, has sent letters to news channels and newspapers offices in Quetta, seeking footages pertaining to Nawab Bugti’s murder, so that these could be included as evidence.
The team requested that it needed footage of the cave where Nawab Bugti was killed, funeral prayers of the Baloch leader, besides videos of interviews and speeches made by chief accused in the murder, former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf. “It was an important evidence which can help investigators in the case,” read the letter sent to media organisations.
The former governor and chief minister Nawab Bugti was killed along with his 30 comrades in a mountainous area of Tratani, a hilly region between Kohlu and Dera Bugti, during a military action in August 2006. It was the real turning point after which violence increased in the province manifolds, engulfing the whole province. Earlier, the federal government had sought five documents, including copies of the FIR and arrest warrants of the accused, from the provincial government for the extradition of nominated accused in Bugti murder case. The investigation team formed by the provincial government has been facing difficulties since very first day of its formation, as it is yet to record the statement of any one of the accused nominated in the FIR. Jamil Bugti, eldest son of Nawab Bugti, had also filed a petition complaining lack of interest and progress on the part of investigators. He stated in his petition that the court’s orders had not been implemented in letter and spirit.
