Chinese vice foreign minister appreciates efforts made by BISP

BEIJING: Federal Minister and Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Farzana Raja met Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin in Beijing and discussed avenues of bilateral cooperation in the social sector on Friday. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Masood Khan was also present at the occasion.

Zhenmin appreciated the efforts of BISP regarding poverty alleviation in Pakistan. According to him, BISP had achieved tremendous success in a short span of time. He added that China would continue supporting Pakistan’s socio-economic development. He was of the opinion that the existence and success of BISP was indicative of the seriousness of the present government of Pakistan’s attitude towards the socio-economic development of its people. He said that the Chinese government would encourage its business and corporate sector to invest in Pakistan. He further said that he had discussed the poverty issue of Pakistan with the World Food Programme.

He lauded the efforts and sacrifices made by Pakistan against terrorism. He said that Pakistan was a front line state in the international war on terror and had suffered a lot because of this. He further said that China was ready to offer assistance to Pakistan.

Farzana Raja thanked the Chinese government and people for supporting Pakistan during floods, adding that China had been an all-weather friend of Pakistan. She briefed the Chinese minister about the various initiatives of BISP, which were bringing in positive socio economic changes in the lives of millions of poor families.
