Govt regrets ‘campaign’ against new AG
ISLAMABAD: The federal government, on Saturday, regretted the campaign unleashed by media against the appointment of Akhtar Buland Rana as the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP). A spokesman of the government said in a statement issued here that Rana was the senior most officer of Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service in BPS (22), and served as the additional auditor general of Pakistan before his present appointment which reflected his competence and experience requisite for holding the constitutional position. The spokesman said that a malicious campaign was underway to belittle the senior officer without plausible reason and in utter disregard for moral and professional ethics. The spokesman further said that it was quite in accordance with the law to hold dual nationality by citizens. “Under the law, officers in the government of Pakistan service are not barred from possessing dual nationality,” the spokesman added. He said that allegation against the officer that he held more than one national identity card was also wrong because the officer, like all citizens of this country, possessed one computerized identity card, and to construe it otherwise was factually and ethically wrong. app
