MQM seeks explanation from PPP leadership

KARACHI: The Coordination Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Sunday demanded President Asif Ali Zardari and senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership to take serious notice of the allegations levelled by Dr Zulfiqar Mirza against the party and explain their position. Condemning the allegations, the committee said that Dr Mirza should have told the nation why the incidents of kidnapping for ransom of the children of businessmen, industrialists, traders and shopkeepers and extortion started in Karachi soon after his becoming the Sindh home minister. A joint meeting of the MQM Coordination Committee, held in Karachi and London simultaneously, on Sunday strongly condemned the allegations made against the MQM by Dr Mirza. In a statement issued after the meeting, the committee said that Dr Mirza was trying to drive a wedge between the permanent residents of Sindh. Mirza inflamed the fire of hatred in Sindh several times before and he has now once again made a conspiracy to kindle the fire of hatred, violence and turmoil in Sindh, the statement said. staff report
