Govt machinery should be used to control situation:CJP
KARACHI: The Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry has adjourned the hearing of the suo moto case regarding the security situation in Karachi till September 5, Geo News reported Tuesday.A five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the case while the bench comprises of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Ameer Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani.
Sindh government lawyer Abdul Hafeez Pirzadah gave arguments before break.
The CJP in his remarks said that it was the responsibility of the chief minister and his government to ensure protection of the basic rights of people and if he will not do so, the court would take notice of it.
After the hearing resumed, President Sindh High Court Bar, Anwar Mansoor advised that the hearing should be done in Islamabad. To this, lawyer of Sindh Bachao Committee Mujeeb Pirzada said that violence would again erupt in the metropolis if they will leave from here. Therefore, they should not leave without giving any decision.
The CJP said that the hearing would continue in Karachi.
Continuing his arguments, Hafeez Pirzadah said that foreigners were involved in Karachi violence and some had dual nationalities. He said that such people did not have the right to represent people as their loyalties could not be trusted.
To this, Justice Sarmard Jalal Usmani asked him about the government officials having dual nationalities. Pirzadah replied that they are also like other politicians.
Pirzadah said that the government had the machinery that could be used to control the situation.
