Eid today in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Arab countries

PESHAWAR/RIYADH: Maintaining its tradition of celebrating two Eids, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is bracing once again for two Eids as the chief cleric of Qasim Ali Mosque, Mufti Popalzai, on Monday announced that Shawwal moon had been sighted and Eid would be celebrated today (Tuesday). With the announcement aired on TV channels, people of Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan and Bannu are divided whether to celebrate Eid today (Tuesday) or not. The unofficial Ruet-e-Hilal Committee that met at the mosque on Monday evening recorded a total number of 21 witnesses, including from nine women. After reviewing the witnesses, Mufti Popalzai told the media persons that Shawwal moon had been sighted and Eid would be celebrated in Peshawar today (Tuesday). He told that three witnesses also reported from Peshawar’s suburb Balowi. Meanwhile, North Waziristan and Khyber agencies will also celebrate Eid in accordance with the decree of the Qasim Khan Mosque. Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that the Eidul Fitar would be celebrated today (Tuesday).Religious authorities in Saudi Arabia said the new moon had been sighted and that Ramazan ended on Monday with the feast to follow the next day. Egyptian state television, quoting authorities, too declared that Eidul Fitar would be on Tuesday. The United Arab Emirates and Qatar also announced the end of Ramazan. agencies
