Punjab engineering power crisis to defame fed govt: Shujaat
* PML-Q chief says Shahbaz Sharif responsible for energy crisis
Staff Report
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, on Tuesday, said that the Punjab government was wilfully defaming the federal government by creating an energy crisis.
He said that the PML-Q members were protesting against the criticism by the Punjab government against the federal government, in the name of load shedding and injustice in distribution of development funds.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Shujaat mentioned that party members in a meeting held earlier, had pointed out that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s “favourite officers” were to blame for load shedding, as they intentionally shut down power at the time of sehr and iftar, so that the people would criticise the federal government.
He said, “This is a similar game that was played in the last election by the caretaker government and had created a fake flour crisis.”
He said that WAPDA officers were pursuing the policy of Shahbaz Sharif, adding that the entire responsibility for energy crisis lied with the Punjab CM, who had adopted the same attitude as the last caretaker government.
The PML-Q chief said that the Prime Minister’s adviser on petroleum Dr Asim Hussain, after hearing the complaints from the PML-Q members, had decided to issue transfer orders of some officers.
Shujaat said that the petroleum adviser had issued instructions to the officials of the federal government to not be associated with any political party, warning that failure to do so would result in stern action against them.
The PML-Q chief said that the members at the meeting had protested against the shortage of Sui gas development funds and injustice in distribution of these funds. He alleged that the PML-N members were getting Sui gas supply connections through police.
Shujaat deplored that the PML-N members of the National Assembly criticised the federal government during the day and meet the prime minister “in the darkness of the night” to receive funds. “If details in this respect are made public then they would be hiding their faces,” he added.
