Even ‘united opposition’ can’t defeat PPP in election: Raja
* PM says alliance with current partners will continue in general election as well as next government
Staff Report
LAHORE: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Thursday urged his party workers to maintain courage and morale, saying that opponents would fail to compete with them in the next general election even if they all united against them.
He alerted the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers that the election was a few months ahead, advising them to start a contact campaign in their constituencies.
Raja also said that PPP’s coalition with its allies, especially the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), would continue not even in the upcoming general election but also beyond that.
He said this while addressing PPP and PML-Q members in separate meeting held at the Punjab Governor’s House. The prime minister held eight different meetings with PPP’s provincial parliamentary members from eight different divisions of the province.
A special meeting with PML-Q’s parliamentary members was also held at the Governor’s House, wherein around 15 lawmakers, including five female members, participated and exchanged views with the prime minister on the current political and provincial matters.
PPP Central Secretary General Jahangir Badar, Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa, opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz Ahmad, PPP Punjab President Imtaiz Safdar Warriach, PPP Lahore President Samina Khalid Ghurki and other office-bearers were also present during these meetings.
