Parliament’s authority can’t be compromised

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the heads of allied parties on Friday expressed the resolve that the right of parliament to legislate would be upheld and this right would not be allowed to be compromised no matter what the odds and the cost. The meeting held in Presidency with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in the chair, reiterated unequivocally that the power to legislate under the constitution belongs to elected representatives alone. In the context of the present situation, the meeting observed that there was even greater need to remain united and firm to face the emerging challenges with unity, force and conviction. Senators Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Haji Muhammad Adeel, Afrasiab Khattak, Babar Khan Ghauri, Abbas Khan Afridi, and Dr Farooq Sattar, Munir Khan Orakzai and Hameedullah Jan Afridi attended the meeting. Briefing about the meeting, Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the prime minister also gave a detailed overview to the meeting on the current power situation in the country. Raja said that the energy situation was steadily improving and the crisis would be overcome soon. app
