Power generation situation will improve soon: PM
* Raja tells Pervaiz Elahi all National Assembly legislators from his party will get development funds soon
LAHORE: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Friday said that power generation in the country would improve soon as the government was finding solutions to the issue.
The premier also assured Deputy Prime Minister Pervaiz Elahi that he would address all reservations of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).
The PM also told Elahi that he would provide funds to the PML-Q lawmakers for development projects in their constituencies.
Later, talking to reporters after his meeting with the deputy PM, Raja said that his party would win majority of seat across the country and several seats in Lahore during the next general elections, adding that the PPP had defeated opponents in the recent by-elections.
He confirmed that next elections would be free and fair and would take forward the mission of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. He said that though the energy crisis in the country was enormous but they were trying to solve it. He hoped that power generation would improve soon.
Earlier, Elahi briefed the prime minister about the reservations of PML-Q federal ministers on the unavailability of development funds and the inordinate delay in addressing the countrywide power outages.
The deputy PM also informed Raja about the huge loss of government property due to the “Punjab government-sponsored power riots”. He urged the PM to take solid steps to provide relief to the people.
The prime minister assured Elahi that all National Assembly legislators would be given development funds and the load shedding issue would also be resolved on priority basis.
According to a PML-Q press release, both leaders were sure that in the next general election the PPP-PML-Q alliance would emerge as the biggest electoral force. Elahi also welcomed the announcement by the PM that the PML-Q was a major ally of the PPP and it would neither be ignored nor denied the rightful position on any occasion, adding that the government would continue seeking guidance from the wisdom and statesmanship of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and Deputy Prime Minister Pervaiz Elahi also discussed the steps regarding contesting the next general elections jointly. They said such candidates would be fielded that would defeat the opponents with a big margin and no anti-people party would be able to face their alliance.
Separately, talking to the PPP workers at the residence of Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Asif Hashmi, Raja said the PPP had led the country during tough times.
The premier also said political opponents, the PML-Nawaz and the Jamaat-e-Islami, had gathered against former premier Yousaf Raza Gilani's son in Multan, but they could not defeat the PPP in by-elections. kashif hussain/app
