Nobody can snatch parliament’s right to legislate, says Memon

KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday said parliament was the supreme institution with a sole right to draft, amend and interpret the constitution and PPP would not allow anyone to snatch this constitutional right. He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at the Sindh Secretariat. Announcing the government’s stand over the Supreme Court’s ruling, the information minister termed the opening of the case against the PPP leaders an attempt to create crisis. He vowed that they would not allow anyone to create such crisis. Memon said that the PPP had always respected judiciary, however, the party leaders were being targeted. Talking about the NRO, he said that it was impossible to bring democracy in the country and press the former dictator to doff his uniform without the NRO. He said that the PPP had faced massive losses due to the ordinance, but it was also a fact that democracy was running in the country due to the NRO. Memon said further that targeting a single case of all 8,000 cases settled by the NRO was a nefarious conspiracy against the PPP and democracy. staff report
