Reopening NAB references against Sharifs: Case adjourned till Sep 15
RAWALPINDI: An accountability court here heard the case pertaining to restoration of NAB references against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Nawaz Sharif and Shahabaz Sharif on Monday, Geo News reported.
During proceedings, lawyer for the Sharif brothers, Akram Sheikh submitted a request on behalf of his clients seeking immunity from attending court proceedings, to which the NAB’s lawyer strongly objected.
The accountability court inquired whether the accused were present in court when the cases were adjourned for an indefinite period, adding that the accused will be summoned to court once the references against them are reopened.
Meanwhile, Akram Sheikh assured the court that the Sharif brothers will come to court if they are summoned but argued that the references against them had not yet been reopened.
NAB chief Admiral Fasih Bokhari had submitted three applications in the accountability court seeking the reopening of three references against Sharif brothers and to contest the quashment petition which was filed by the Sharifs in the LHC in October 2011. He took this decision on the recommendation of a special committee, constituted by him under the supervision of the NAB prosecutor general.
The references include the alleged corruption cases of Hudaibia paper mills, Ittefaq Foundry and Raiwind farm.
The case has been adjourned till September 15 and the court has asked all parties to come prepared with their arguments.
