Government files review petition against SC contempt law verdict
ISLAMABAD: The government has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against the judgement striking down the Contempt of Court Act, 2012.
A decision to file the review petition was made after President Asif Ali Zardari met with coalition partners and Law Minister Farooq Naek last Sunday.
On August 3, the Supreme Court had declared the Contempt of Court Act 2012, unconstitutional and null and void.
The act was signed into law by President Asif Ali Zardari on July 12 after it was adopted by a majority vote in both houses of Parliament.
According to the federations lawyer Shakoor Paracha the review petition challenges several points of the court’s verdict.
