Thar coal project can play vital role to overcome power crisis: PM Raja
THARPARKAR: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said Thar coal project in Sindh (having second largest coal reserves in the world) can play a vital role in energy production and overcome power crisis in the country.
The government was exploring each option in order to enhance power generation, he said while speaking Thursday during briefing at Thar coal project in Tharparkar. Pakistan was gifted with abundant natural resources from which energy can be generated in a big way, he noted.
Renowned scientist Dr. Samar Mubarakmand briefed the Prime Minister on coal gasification project. A practical exhibition of generating electricity from sun gas was presented by scientists.
Dr. Samar said in initial phase, 8MW power stations will be operated through sun gas and their capacity enhanced up to 100MW in later stage. Sun gas will be generated through coal gasification from Thar files.
Multinational companies representatives also briefed Prime Minister on exploration and excavation of coal to meet energy needs of the country. (PPI)
