Ousting second PM not in country's interest: SCBA

QUETTA: Supreme Court Bar Association President Yasin Azad on Wednesday said that confrontation among state organs had created a crisis-like situation in the country. Disqualifying another prime minister is not in the interest of Pakistan, the judiciary must consider other options on the NRO judgement, he added. Addressing reporters, the SCBA president said that the national issues were being ignored by both the apex court and the mainstream political parties, which was leading the country to a crisis. The SCBA wanted the NRO judgement to be implemented in letter and spirit, but in view of the prevailing crises, it would be prudent to review other options to reach an amicable solution of the issue on the judgement, he said. Stressing the need for disposing of the cases of poor litigants in the courts, Yasin deplored that common people had started questioning the dignity of the judiciary. “It is really pathetic that the cases of poor litigants have been pending in the courts for five to six years, he said. "On the request of many applicants, who even are languishing in jails, I myself observed that their cases have been not disposed of for the last seven years." He lashed out at the leadership of top political parties, saying that the parties were busy pursuing their own interests and not interested in people’s issues. Political parties should come forward and play their role in issues facing the country, he added. He feared that situation in Balochistan was deteriorating and immediate steps were needed to remove the grievances of the Baloch. Until and unless the missing persons were not recovered, police was not empowered and the government writ was not ensured, no peace could be restored in the province, said the SCBA president. Opposing the phenomenon of using force in Balochistan, Azad said that the use of force had never produced positive results. He added that disgruntled Baloch should be convinced to hold talks. To a question, he said that no one was above the law. The Supreme Court should form a committee on Arsalan Iftikhar case and the case should be proceeded and completed in accordance with law. app
