Pakistan celebrates I-Day today
ISLAMABAD: The nation celebrates 66th Independence Day today (Tuesday) with traditional zeal, fervour and a renewed commitment to make the motherland prosperous and impregnable.
The day begins with 31-gun salute in federal capital and 21-gun in provincial capitals while special prayers would be offered at worship places for well being, welfare and better future of Pakistani nation. Pakistanis living within the country and abroad have planned detailed programmes to celebrate the day in a befitting manner. Tributes would be paid to founding father Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and great thinker and philosopher Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, in their messages on the occasion, have called upon the nation to stand firm against all odds and challenges. Main event of the federal capital would be flag-hoisting by the prime minister at Convention Centre while a number of social, cultural and literary organisations, and educational institutes have also chalked out various programmes to mark the day.
Federal and provincial governments have ensured detailed security arrangements with additional deployment of personnel to thwart any untoward incident. app
