No plan under consideration to postpone election: cabinet* Kaira says legislation being mulled to make public assets of all public servants

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Wednesday reaffirmed the government’s resolve to hold upcoming general elections as per schedule.
“The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) believes in free, fair and impartial elections and whichever political party wins, result will be welcomed,” he told the federal cabinet which took up host of issues.
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the PPP was not running away from elections and would hold them on time.
To a question asked about any plan of the government to delay the poll, he said, “The polls will neither be held before the schedule, nor will they be delayed.”
He completely ruled out any emergency situation to delay the polls, saying that such issue were never raised in a party meeting.
Kaira, however, pointed out that the PPP was concerned on the emerging situation in the country.
On Balochistan unrest, the information minister said the Cabinet’s Special Committee on Balochistan briefed it on the progress made so far and sought more time to come up with recommendations to resolve the issue.
To a question, he said legislation was under consideration to make public assets of all who draw salaries from the national exchequer.
