PM for setting up drug bank to facilitate poor patients

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Wednesday directed National Regulations and Services Minister Dr Firdous Aashiq Awan to set up a drug bank where all the charity organisations could pool their resources. This bank could help channelise delivery of medicines to facilitate poor and needy patients, Raja said. He said this in a meeting at PM’s House with Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Minister Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, National Regulations and Services Minister Dr Firdous Aashiq Awan and Dr Paul Bhatti, the adviser to PM on minorities affairs. Firdous apprised Raja about International Health Partners, a UK-based charity organisation that has promised to donate medicines free of cost to control the epidemics in rain-hit areas of Pakistan. The PM also appreciated the gesture by the charity organisation. Wattoo informed Raja about various development schemes in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Bhatti apprised Raja about his meetings with leaders of various communities. The prime minister said that the government gave high importance to the minorities and has taken concrete steps for their welfare. He also directed Bhatti to go to Sindh and visit the Hindu community to ascertain the nature of their grievances and present a report to him with recommendations. staff report
