Mobile services finally resumed in major cities
ISLAMABAD: The cellular services, suspended to thwart possible terror bids at markets on Chand Raat and Eid prayer venues in the morning, have finally been resumed after a blackout of 14 hours, Geo News reported Monday.
The service providers following the orders of Ministry of Interior had pulled the plug on the networks in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Quetta at 8:00 PM on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr (Sunday).
According to sources the network providers switched their services on after the interior department gave them a greensignal on Monday morning.
Earlier, Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday had announced that mobile service would remain suspended in some cities till 10:00 am Monday morning and asked the citizens to tolerate this inconvenience for few hours, Geo News reported.
Talking to media, Rehman Malik said mobiles phones are being used for blasts and service in Karachi is suspended owing to this threat.
The Interior Minister, however, clarified that mobile services would not be shut throughout the country. Service is suspended in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Multan for precautionary measures, he added.
He said if needed service would also be suspended in Islamabad as well.
On Sunday night reports were received that consumers were facing difficulty in receiving mobile phone reception in areas of Karachi, Lahore and Multan. Reports were also received that the service of all mobile companies were suspended in Quetta.
