Shamim-ur-Rehman laid to rest in Karachi

KARACHI: A very well-known and senior journalist Shamim-ur-Rehman who passed away earlier today was laid to rest this afternoon here at a graveyard in Pehlwan Goth, Gulistan Jauhar in presence of a large number of his politicians, members of journalist community besides family and friends.

Associated with journalism for the past 40 years, Rahman was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment.

His funeral prayer was offered at the Shumail Arcade mosque. Senator Raza Rabbani recording his comments on the death of Shamim-ur-Rehman termed it a great loss for the jouranlist community, he said he himself has lost a sincere friend.

Amir Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan Syed Munawwar Hassan said late Shamim was a down-to-earth person. Sindh I.T Minister Raza Haroon paying tribute to the late journalist said, "He was my personal friend and a good human being. We have lost a bold and impartial reporter".

Special Assistant to Chief Minister Waqar Mehdi said, "I was saddened to hear the news of his demise. He was a good human being and a very friendly person. He always gave a postive side of our point of view".

Journalist G.M. Jamali on the occasion said he would appeal to the family of Shamim-ur-Rehman as well as employee to provide his writings to Karachi Union of Journalists to publish them in a form of book. (APP)
