Eid celebrated in UK with religious fervour, harmony

LONDON: Muslims across the United Kingdom on Sunday celebrated Eid with religious fervour and harmony. British Muslims from all factions expressed their joy on celebrating Eid the same day across the UK and Europe after three years. Last time the community together celebrated Eid in 2009. Prayers were offered in more than 1,500 mosques across the UK with prayer leaders imploring the Muslim congregation to maintain the spiritual and charitable sense of piety, obedience and generosity prevailed during the fasting month of Ramazan throughout the year. A large number of Muslims also gathered at Regent Park Mosque in Central London to offer Eid prayers. The preachers said the sacred days and nights of the holy month of Ramazan had gone past for which “we need to give thanks to Allah, The Most Generous, on the great favours He has endowed upon us, including the completion of fasting, standing up for prayer at night, reciting the holy Quran, remembering His name and giving charity”. They added that Eid was the time for the observers of fast to reap what they had sown throughout Ramazan. “The Eid is meant to be a time of enjoyment... Muslims should follow the tradition of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) who had been keen to spread joy and share it with his family.” Prayer leaders said Eid was a precious opportunity for consolidating relations, intimacy and mercy amongst Muslims. They urged the worshippers to promote and observe the values of right, justice, peace and intimacy. asif mehmood
