Prime Minister not accountable to courts for official actions: AG

ISLAMABAD: Attorney General Irfan Qadir said Friday that according to the constitution the Prime Minister was not accountable to the courts for his official actions nor could he be summoned by them.

Speaking to Geo News, Attorney General Qadir said he was not aware if Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf would appear before the Supreme Court on August 27.

The Attorney General also did not comment on what steps the Supreme Court would take if the Prime Minister failed to appear before them.

Prime Minister Ashraf was issued a contempt of court notice by the Supreme Court for failing to implement its order in the NRO case by not writing the letter to Swiss authorities. He has been summoned to appear before the apex court bench hearing the case on August 27.
