Rangers pick up 54 in Lyari operation

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers Sunday took at least 54 suspects into custody by the end of a targeted operation that had started Sunday morning in different parts of Lyari, Geo News reported.

Rangers authorities told media that top-guns of Lyari gang-war were also among the arrestees.

The operation against target killers, extortionists and other criminals started in the wee hours of Sunday.

Afshani Street, Nawa Lane, Tezi Road, Niazi Chowk, Aath Chowk and Cheel Chowk areas were the main focus of this crackdown.

According to an official statement weapons including Kalashnikovs, 12-bore pistol, grenade, 5kg explosive material, IEDs, 27kg hashish, over 3000 bottles of liquor and large quantity of bullets were also recovered.

The raids were also conducted at gambling dens, the statement added.

Moreover, some sympathizers of criminal elements burnt tyres and chanted slogans against the government in protest.
