PM directs to prioritise hydel power projects
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Saturday directed Water and Power Ministry to prioritise contribution of hydel power projects so that the growing water and electricity needs of the country could be meet.
Water and Power Minister Ahmad Mukhtar called on the premier at the Prime Minister’s House and briefed him about the measures being taken by his ministry to improve the power situation in the country. The federal minister informed the premier that every possible effort was being made to ensure that the power generation capacity was utilised optimally so that the difference between demand and supply of electricity could be reduced to the minimum. He also said that equal emphasis should also be laid on the distribution system to reduce line losses and theft of electricity. Raja said the entire power chain, from generation to distribution, must be upgraded and streamlined to minimise load shedding in the country. staff report
