Raja bans criticism on judiciary

ISLAMABAD: Following the judicial restraint exercised by the judiciary in the NRO implementation case, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has reciprocated by asking his party leaders and colleagues not to speak against superior courts. The directives came immediately after his appearance in the Supreme Court in the NRO implementation case, wherein he was issued a notice and granted three weeks to again appear in the court. “Leaders of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) should stop giving remarks and making statements against the judiciary and they must respect the courts,” Raja said immediately after the hearing of the case when he met party leaders at the Prime Minister’s House. Apart from party leaders, federal ministers and leaders from the coalition parties were also present in the meeting. During the hearing on Monday, the judges had pointed out the ridiculing remarks and statements against the courts by the leaders of the PPP, which prompted the premier to ask his ministers to respect the judiciary, especially during television talk shows. “Statements and remarks that may reflect a confrontation between the government and the judiciary should not be made,” the prime minister said. The ministers and coalition leaders present during the meeting appreciated the prime minister’s stance in the court. tanveer ahmed
