Rule of law is essential for survival: CJ

KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said Thursday that the rule of law was essential for the survival of the government, assemblies and democracy.

Chief Justice Chaudhry met with representatives of the Sindh Bar Council and other district bar councils at the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry.

The Chief Justice said that lawyers and judges did not have protection and specific people were being targeted. He added that law enforcement agencies were not fulfilling their responsibilities.

Meanwhile representatives from the bar councils told the Chief Justice that they would continue to play their role in ensuring the supremacy of law.
