Lawyers observe black day in Balochistan
QUETTA: Lawyers in the Balochistan province are observing a ‘black day’ on Friday against the target killing of Quetta’s additional sessions judge Zulfiqar Ali Naqvi along with his driver and security guard on Thursday, Geo News reported.
The courtrooms presented a deserted look as the lawyers boycotted all court proceedings to mark the black day.
Zulfiqar Naqvi, 41, along with his driver and a guard, had been on his way to the sessions court when unidentified men riding on a motorcycle opened fire with automatic weapons on his car at around 8:15am in the Government Officers Residence (GOR) colony on Thursday, killing the three on the spot.
The attack was so sudden and intense that the guard of the judge could not retaliate. The assailants fled the scene, leaving their victims behind in a pool of blood.
Meanwhile, office-bearers of the Balochistan Bar Association, while condemning the killing of Zulfiqar Naqvi, announced its boycott of court proceedings across the province. The Hazara Democratic Party also condemned the killing of the sessions judge and demanded arrest of the culprits involved in the incident.
The Tahafuz-e-Azadari Council announced three days’ mourning over the incident. The body of the sessions judge will be dispatched to Karachi on Friday on a PIA flight for burial in his ancestral graveyard.
