Up to 100 % increase in power tariff for industrial consumers* New rates applicable from Aug 1
* Tariff for domestic and agricultural consumers will be raised by up to 117% from October 1

ISLAMABAD: The government has increased the electricity charges for industrial consumers by 25 percent to 98.42 percent, for commercial consumers by up to 22 percent and has set a target of generating Rs 137 billion during the current financial year through a two-phase tariff rationalisation plan.
According to the officials of the Ministry of Water and Power the tariff for industrial and commercial sectors has been increased by up to 99 percent from August 1. In the second phase, the rates for domestic and agricultural consumers will be raised by up to 117 percent from October 1. The tariff for commercial consumers has been increased to Rs 18 per unit from the current Rs 14.77, a raise of 22 percent. Regular 20kW commercial rates have been increased by almost 65 percent to Rs 16 per unit from Rs 9.72.
The TOD rate for commercial consumers has been increased to Rs 18 per unit from Rs 13.20 for peak consumption, while off-peak rate has been increased to Rs 12.50 per unit from Rs 8.01. The temporary commercial rates will remain unchanged at Rs 15 per unit. With the addition of 81 paisa per unit equalisation surcharge for all industrial consumers, the tariff for B-1 consumers will increase to Rs 15.31 per unit from Rs 10.51. The B-1 TOD peak rate will increase to Rs 18.81 per unit from Rs 13.99, while off-peak rate will jump to Rs 16.31 per unit from Rs 8.22. The B-2 tariff will go up to Rs 14.81 per unit from Rs 9.14; B-2 TOD peak rate to Rs 18.81 per unit from Rs 12.77 and off-peak rate to Rs 13.11 per unit from Rs 8.01. The B-3 TOD peak rate will increase to Rs 18.81 per unit from Rs 12.68 and off-peak rate to Rs 10 per unit from Rs 7.75.
The implementation of the plan will reduce subsidy to Rs 252 billion from Rs 396 billion (estimated without tariff increase), the officials explained. This will take the total revenue of all the distribution companies, excluding KESC, to over Rs 1 trillion from Rs 875 billion under the existing tariff.
