Pakistan Ulema Council to will hold Istehkam-e-Pakistan Conferences
LAHORE: Pakistan Ulema Council [PUC] will hold “Istehkam-e-Pakistan Conferences” [conferences for stability in Pakistan] in the four provinces and Islamabad.
“On August 25, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Conference will be held in Islamabad,” said PUC Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi during his address to clerics and scholars belonging to different schools of thought at the PUC office. He said that Pakistan is facing difficult circumstances and the country is in need of national unity. Anti-Pakistan forces want to promote sectarian violence, terrorism and instability in the country, he said, adding that the only way to stop them is by promoting national unity.
He said that under the given circumstances, religious and political leaderships have a responsibility to unite the nation against these forces and elements that want to divide the nation.
The PUC chairman condemned the suicide attack in Islamabad and incidents of terrorism in Quetta, saying that anti-Pakistan forces have inflicted a war on the Pakistani nation and it has become necessary to effectively tackle them.
Responding to a question, he said that the United States wants to establish India’s dominance in Afghanistan. For this purpose, terrorism was promoted in Pakistan and Indian aggression was encouraged on the control line. However, both the United States and India should keep in mind that neither Pakistan nor Afghans will accept India’s dominance in Afghanistan. He said that Afghan President Hamid Karzai does not even know about his own future after April 2014. “Therefore, our Foreign Office should keep this fact in mind when formulating its policy on the Afghan issue.”
He further said that a committee had been formed under the headship of Maulana Zahid Mahmood Qasmi to get in touch with all religious and political parties. The committee will send out invitations for the conference that will take place in Islamabad on August 25 to discuss the country’s existing situation. He expressed hope that leaders of more than 30 religious and political parties will attend the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Conference in Islamabad. pr
