Low-lying areas submerged as incessant rain hits Lahore
LAHORE: Two people were killed and 13 others injured in different areas of Lahore as incessant torrential rain lashed the city on Wednesday.
The rain started battering the Punjab’s provincial capital 6:00 am in the morning and according to latest reports 148 mm rain was recorded so far.
Stagnant rainwater turned roads and streets into nullas, causing difficulties for citizens.
At least six people were trapped under debris as roofs of houses collapsed in different areas.
Rainwater submerged low-lying areas including Mughalpura, Dharampura, Do Moria Bridg, Haji Camp, Empress Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Qaddhafi Stadium, disrupting traffic flow.
Weather turned pleasant as mercury plunged after heavy rain in the metropolis.
According to Met Office, 148 mm, 136 mm, 130mm, 116mm and 61mm rain was recorded in Shahi Qilla, Shahidra, Jail Road, Upper Mall, Misri Shah and Airport respectively.
