Peace activists urge India, Pakistan to keep LoC peacefulStaff Report
LAHORE: Peace activists from India and Pakistan have urged the two countries to keep the Line of Control (LoC) peaceful and solve their national issues through dialogue.
They also criticised the media of both countries and urged it to play a positive role to help establish peace in the region.
The peace activists were addressing a seminar on ‘A modern Pakistan at peace within and with neighbours” in connection with SAFMA Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday.
A 12-member Indian delegation came from India for peace mission and participated in the celebrations.
On this occasion, Kishan Chand Tyagi, Madhya Pradesh (MP) of Janata Dal (United), and Avtar Singh Bhadana, Madhya Pradash(MP) of Indian National Congress (INC), represented the Indian side.
Renowned journalists Najam Sethi spoke on “ A violence-free South Asia”, Dr Akmal Hussain gave a lecture on regional trade, Khalid Ahmed spoke on “ Pakistan: A Sectarian or Secular State, while Dr Mohammad Waseem also spoke on the occasion.
The media expert, Chanchal Minohar, said that Pakistan and India are neighbours and they want to work together, adding that people of the two countries believe in “Aman Ki Asha”. He also demanded that prime ministers of the two countries meet and solve mutual issues through a dialogue.
Another Indian peace activist, Chastip Singh Malhotra, also expressed his feelings during the seminar, and said that the media of both countries should play a vital role for peace.
Najam Sahti said that the attitude of India and Pakistani media must be responsible and patriotic.
The chief speaker, SAFMA President Dr Akmal Hussain, also addressed the seminar and welcomed the Indian delegates.
Vinod Sharma and SAFMA General Secretary Imtiaz Alam talked about the objectives of the seminar. Javeed Akram and IA Rehman were also present.
