Chaudhry Nisar proposes probe committee to investigate poll rigging
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has proposed a probe committee to investigate allegations of rigging in the May 11 general elections.
Speaking in the National Assembly on Thursday, the minister suggested that the committee could come up with its findings in a short time. He said that caretaker prime minister and chief ministers should also be summoned during the probe.
Nisar said that strict action should be taken against those responsible and MNAs elected through rigging should also be disqualified.
The interior minister announced to impose a ban on issuance of arm licenses and said previous government issued 70,000 licenses.
He told the house that 8,000 passports were being issued on a daily basis and work was underway to enhance the capability.
The interior minister apprised the lower house of the parliament that as many as 17,921 Rangers personnel were deployed in Sindh. He said Rs110.56 million was being spent on Rangers on daily basis.
