I directly ordered the police not to open fire at Sikander, says Ch Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Dispelling the impression that one armed man held the federal capital hostage, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Friday said that he was monitoring the situation minute-by-minute and had himself directly instructed the police not to open fire until ordered, Geo News reported.

Briefing the media about more than five-hour-long armed standoff that brought Islamabad to a standstill on Thursday, Nisar said Zammurd Khan's valor was commendable, but he eventually failed to overcome the armed man owing to the fact it was not his job, adding the mayhem that followed could have led to an even bigger disaster.

He added that however he said security personnel should not have allow anyone to go close to the gunman, who was accompanied by his wife and children.

The interior minister further said that he ordered suspension of all Police officials who allowed Zummard Khan to break the siege and went close to the armed man.

Chaudhry Nisar further said that the gunman, identified as Sikander, is not a worker of any terrorist organization and he would be interrogated for his act of rowdiness.
