By-polls: Imran Khan wants deployment of army
KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan Saturday demanded deployment of army troops inside and outside polling stations for the upcoming by-elections due to be held on August 22.
Imran Khan said this while addressing a press conference here.
The PTI Chief ruled out the possibility of transparent elections in the absence of an independent Election Commission. “We want that there is no rigging in the next elections,” he reiterated.
He said a white paper will be issued on the ‘poll rigging’ on August 21. “We appeal to the Chief Justice to take notice of the rigging in the election,” he added.
Imran Khan said he valued a number of judgments issued by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
He regretted that the concerned authorities had so far failed to arrest the killers of his party’s senior leader Zehra Shahid, who was brutally murdered in Karachi after May 11 elections.
He told the reporters that his party workers were still receiving threats and added that there was no militant wing in his party.
Later, as a result of some mismanagement during the press conference, Imran Khan abruptly stood up and left the venue.
