CJ takes suo moto notice of Islamabad standoff
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry has taken suo moto notice of the standoff which took place in the federal capital on Thursday.
A three-member bench will hear the suo moto case on August 19.
Earlier on Saturday, the spokesperson for the PIMs hospital said that health of Islamabad gunman Sikander, whose statement is yet to be recorded, was improving.
Meanwhile, his wife was discharged from the hospital before being transferred to a women’s prison.
On Thursday, Sikander accompanied by his wife and children brought the federal capital to a standstill as he brandished two sub-machine guns in broad daylight on Jinnah Avenue, fired shots in the air, and put forth irrational demands to the government authorities.
The five-hour standoff came to an end after PPP leader Zamurud Khan intervened by making an unsuccessful attempt to grab Sikander who was then shot along with his wife by security forces.
