JI, ANP to boycott Karachi by-pollsKARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Awami National Party (ANP) on Sunday decided to boycott the upcoming by-election event to be held in Karachi on August 22.
Both the parties finalized for not taking part in the upcoming by-election, while candidates of other parties including Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) haven’t started their electoral campaigns yet, sources said.
Until now, only two political parties are seen active in their constituencies including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) as they’ve begun their campaigns in NA-254, PS-95 and PS-103.
Moreover, MQM chief Altaf Hussain ordered to cancel all mass meetings in different constituencies of Sindh until Monday, due to some inevitable engagements. He was supposed to address the public regarding by-election campaign.
Earlier on Sunday, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced for the deployment of Pakistan Army personnel in all polling stations of Karachi in order to hold free and fair by-election in all constituencies. It ordered for conducting the electoral event under “complete” supervision of Pakistan Army, as the troops shall remain present both inside and outside the polling booths. online
