New bench to hear Imran Khan’s contempt case
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has referred Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s contempt case to another bench of the Supreme Court.
According to the new cause list, a three-member bench of the apex court – headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and consisting of Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry – will now hear the contempt case on August 28.
On August 2, a three-member bench had taken up the case and rejected Imran’s two written explanations. The same bench had asked him to file a comprehensive reply on August 28, but now the case has been referred to another bench.
It has been learnt that the chief justice will not be available in Islamabad next week, as he is going Quetta to hear cases; therefore, Imran Khan’s matter has been referred to a new bench.
Meanwhile, Hamid Khan, counsel for the PTI chairman, told Daily Times that his team had not prepared the reply, but would submit it by August 27.
