Nisar orders setting up of Fast Response Force

ISLAMABAD: Minister of Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday ordered setting up of a well-trained Fast Response Force in order to respond to security situations briskly.

Chairing a meeting, the minister focused on the lessons learnt from the recent incident in Islamabad and emphasised on ground improvements in the Islamabad Police. He also stressed on the importance of out-of-box solutions to deal with security issues, said a press release. The meeting, held at the Interior Ministry, was attended by top ministry and police officials and Islamabad administration representatives. It discussed the recent incident in Islamabad and overall security situation.

The minister advised the officials to implement an integrated communication system and clearly define SOPS (Standard Operating Procedures) within a week’s time. He asked all the officials to commit themselves to equal application of law at all levels. The minister also called for improvements in the system of establishing pickets/checkpoints, reduction in the working hours of security officials from 12 to six hours, better discipline and alertness and enhanced level of security. He also issued directives for an SP-level coordination at sensitive checkpoints.

He assured the officials of monetary support and help from the quarters concerned with regard to fulfilling essential technical requirements of ICT Police.

The minister also called for reactivation of the National Crises Management Cell on priority basis, saying that it should become a “real crisis managing cell”. Earlier, the minister approved the ICT Local Government Act 2013 and issued directives to forward it to the federal cabinet for formal approval. The new local government act provides for bridging the rural-urban divide, single tier system (based on wards, no union councils), a local government commission and effective enforcement of municipal functions. app
