Sindh government has reinitiated politics of 90s: Sattar
ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Parliamentary Leader, Dr Farooq Sattar criticizing the Sindh government termed the arrest of its party workers as “a punch in face of democracy”.
Talking to media outside the Parliament House, the MQM leader said that the raids are being conducted at the residences of hundreds of the party workers without any reason.
The MQM leader alleged that the Sindh government has reinitiated the politics of the 1990s.
Farooq Sattar said that nearly 100 workers of MQM and ordinary citizens including people belonging to Katchi community were arrested in the raids that were carried out in the wee hours of Thursday.
He alleged that MQM is being punished for raising its voice against the killings of innocent people. He further said that the party’s chief Altaf Hussain had demanded to bring the metropolis under the military control due to the failure of the Sindh government.
The MQM parliamentary leader claimed that the Sindh police and the rangers have failed to provide protection to the inhabitants of Karachi.
Sattar said that his party strongly condemned the acts of “illegal raids and arrests”. He demanded of the government to ensure that the arrested people were not tortured and they would be presented before the court within 24 hours.
He thanked Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for categorically stating that an operation would be launched against the criminal elements, saying that the MQM would extend its support to the government.
Earlier, the MQM staged a walkout from the National Assembly session in protest to the arrest of party workers during overnight raids in Karachi. On the floor of the National Assembly, Sattar claimed that his name and those of other party parliamentarians were among the arrest list prepared by the Sindh government.
