Did not say report regarding Muhajir Republican Army was incorrect: Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan clarified that he had not said that the report regarding the Muhajir Republican Army was incorrect.

During the National Assembly session, the interior minister said that the report submitted to the Supreme Court by Attorney General Munir A Malik, was an administrative and intelligence reports. “These are not the kind of reports which should be presented in the Supreme Court.”

“There was mention of the Muhajir Republican Army in an administrative meeting, but the report was presented to the Supreme Court without my permission.”

Earlier, Nisar while addressing on the floor of the National Assembly had distanced himself from the report which mentioned the Muhajir Republican Army and said he had written to the apex court for the report to be withdrawn.

The report created quite a stir in the National Assembly with PPP leader Syed Naveed Qamar asking if action had been taken against those responsible for submitting the report to the Supreme Court. Meanwhile MQM leader Rasheed Gondial questioned if the Muhajir Republican Army was a similar ploy to one which were used in 1992.

The report presented by the attorney general mentioned a new group in Karachi, the Muhajir Republican Army. The report called for action against members of the group when they were identified.
