Imran to protest countrywide if ‘polls rigging’ not probed
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday announced a countrywide protest if “rigging in the elections is not investigated through fingerprint verification”.
Addressing a ceremony in Samanabad, Khan alleged those who rigged the polls to come to power could not keep even a single promise they had made earlier.
“Will the government, which failed to end load shedding within the promised period of six months, will do in the next five years,” he said.
Imran said that after the acceptance of his application by the election tribunal for the vote recount in National Assembly (NA) constituency NA-122, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq – the winning candidate who is now the NA speaker – has taken a stay order. He said had Sadiq won through free and fair election, he would not be hiding behind the stay order.
He urged the Supreme Court not to limit itself to four constituencies and investigate the polls rigging through fingerprints. He said if PTI was proved wrong after the investigation then it would accept its defeat. He said that how was it possible to secure 8,000 votes from a polling station that had only 1,500 registered voters.
The PTI chief said the party would continue to raise its voice for its rights and if the demands were not met then a countrywide protest would be lunched. Those rulers who came to power through corruption cannot end corruption, he added.
Imran Khan said that during the election campaign, the current rulers had promised to bring back looted money of Asif Ali Zardari from abroad. He said even if a single dollar from that looted money was brought back, he would go to Nawaz Sharif and shake his hands to appreciate this feat. The people whose own money was in foreign banks could not make others accountable, he added.
He asked the party workers to prepare for the local body elections and avoid repeating their mistakes. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was afraid of the popularity of PTI and that was the reason it was conducting local body polls on non-party basis. agencies
