AG summoned over award of tender to US firm

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday summoned the attorney general for Pakistan in awarding a tender to a US company by the Pakistani Passport authorities for supplying of lamination papers.

Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on June 27 this year had rejected a petition of a French company, which had challenged the process of tender awarding to a US company by Pakistani Immigration and Passport authorities for supplying of lamination papers. The IHC had given the verdict in favour of the US Company, which had been supplying lamination papers to the Passport Office for the past many years.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Justice Amir Hani Muslim heard the Reliance International Company, a French company, petition against the Ministry of Interior.

During the hearing, counsel for the French Company, Salman Akram Raja, argued that the Immigration and Passport Authorities in violation of the tender notice awarded the contract to the US firm. He further contended that the authorities without examining the security features awarded the contract to the American company. The court adjourned the hearing till next week.
