Sattar reiterates MQM’s demand for army in Karachi
KARACHI: Muttahaida Quami Movement (MQM) leader, Dr Farooq Sattar asked Saturday that if the Rangers could be called to protect Karachi, why the army could not be called.
Speaking with the media, Sattar said that according to the constitution, Rangers had been in the city to provide protection for 22 years, asking why the army could not be called in to provide protection to the people and the business community. “I am not saying that the Rangers are partial, but certain expediencies don not let them do their job.”
Sattar added that when people from the Katchi community return home they are welcomed with bombs, bullets and rockets. He said that under such circumstances only the army could control the situation in Karachi.
The MQM leader informed the media that a decision to attend the special cabinet session on September 3 over the law and order situation in Karachi would be made after consultation.
