'Security forces alert to counter insurgencies'

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday said that the national action plan was a joint decision of the political and the military leaderships.

Addressing the passing-out parade ceremony of the Counterterrorism Task Force, Shahbaz said that the counterterrorism force, Punjab Police and other law enforcement agencies were working in coordination to implement the national action plan.

He said that all funds worth billions of rupees for training of the force had been provided by the provincial government, adding that the military and political leadership was on the same page against terrorism.

The chief minister said that merit had been ensured in recruitment of counterterrorism force, and hoped the new recruits would play their effective role in rooting out the menace of terrorism.

He congratulated the passing-out personnel and their parents on the occasion, saying the personnel would ensure safety of lives and properties of the people. “It is hoped that the fresh personnel would fight terrorism to the best of their abilities,” he added.

Commenting on operation Zarb-e-Azb, Shahbaz said that the army was making history with the kind of success it has gained, adding that the country’s safety was in good hands.

He said that Pakistan’s security forces remained alert day and night to counter insurgencies. “If we have to steer Pakistan out of crisis, we all need to work hard,” he added.
