Any attempt to impede CPEC will be thwarted: Gen Raheel
* COAS congratulates Chinese Peoples Liberation Army on its 88th anniversary, says China’s enemy is Pakistan’s enemy

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Friday reiterated his firm resolve that any attempt to obstruct or impede China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project would be thwarted at all costs.

On occasion of Chinese Army’s 88th Anniversary, he said that cooperation on the CPEC would benefit entire region, said an ISPR press release issued.

The COAS said that recent strides, holistic concept of CPEC speaks its volumes. “We will see the both nations progressing and further maximizing dividend of our geo strategic relations.”

He said that the entire world looked at CPEC through same lens. He had visited site of the project and the pace of work was in full gear, he added.

General Raheel said both countries had deep and resolute relations. “All weather friendship is sweeter than honey, higher than Himalaya and deeper than ocean. Our friendship will further grow in these testing times.”

The COAS said that Pak-China cooperation for regional stability would squeeze space for anti-states and non-state actors for stable Afghanistan.

He congratulated Chinese people and their army for sacrifices in pursuing dreams and said that People Liberation Army (PLA) was one of the best armies.

He said, “The Pakistan Army and People Liberation Army (PLA) form edifice of our strategic relations. We will defeat nefarious designs of forces detrimental to us.”

“I reiterate our firm resolve that any attempt to obstruct or impede this project will be thwarted at all costs.”

The army chief, while noting that China’s enemy was Pakistan’s enemy, pointed out that the elimination of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) — an extremist group which largely operates in the
border Xinjiang region
— was a manifestation of their resolve.

Gen Raheel also fired broadsides at state and non-state actors trying to destabilise Afghanistan.

The army chief also participated in an event to mark the 88th anniversary of the PLA in Islamabad on Friday evening where the Chinese ambassador was also present.
